Beyonce’s double act is not quite there

There have been many artists who have tried there hand at the double act in an attempt to portray different personalities. I don’t know why, but these artists still don’t understand that the double act does not work. It’s hard enough to put one album together, and now these egotistical musicians think they can master it.

Beyonce is the latest artist who thinks she can pull the double act off. The problem she has is that only one half of her album works. The album “I Am” has some amazing songs on there starting with the nearly overplayed if I Were a Boy. Other songs on there that make this side the more impressive are Halo, and the majestic Smash into you. These songs show a different side to Beyonce. The songs on “I Am” are actually well written, which is not something that can be said about the R&B singer’s previous songs mind the Ne-Yo penned Irreplaceable.

The other side of the double act, “Sasha Fierce” does not stand up on its own. The songs on there sound tried and tired. She tries to don a thuggish persona but only comes across as a pretender. The song Diva is one that should have been chucked out of the window at its conception. Much of that album is comprised of songs that seem geared towards radio and club play. Instead of accentuating the merit of “I Am”, “Sasha Fierce” only diminishes the collection’s quality.

One can only hope that other artists learn quickly that the double act should not be attempted. It is often the combination of two different personalities that make a person interesting. Sometimes separating these seemingly symbiotic personas only produces quantity instead of quality.
